Spain’s Catholic Church is under pressure to investigate allegations of child sex abuse by its clergy following revelations of a barrage of previously undisclosed cases.
El País newspaper has reported 251 alleged cases of abuse by members of the Catholic Church, from between 1943 and 2018. The newspaper says there were at least 1,237 victims affected.
El País said it handed the findings directly to Pope Francis during a flight on December 2nd. According to the newspaper, the pope “acted fast” on his return from the trip, giving the document to the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith, the body charged with investigating abuse claims.
Although cases of abuse have come to light in Spain previously, the numbers have been much lower than in countries such as Ireland, France or the United States and the Spanish church has never carried out a major investigation.
Antonio Carpallo, who is 81, told of how he was abused by a priest in a boarding school run by the Salesian congregation in Seville. He recounted how one of the staff got into bed with him and touched him, while asking if he wanted to go to a football game. “I was a child and an orphan, how was I going to tell him I didn’t want to see the game?” said Mr Carpallo.
The vast majority of the cases are from between the 1950s and the 1990s, with around three-quarters of them linked to religious orders. The Salesians, Jesuits and Marists are among those most frequently cited.
The Salesian congregation, whose members were involved in 37 previously undisclosed cases, according to El País, has responded to the allegations by saying it will investigate.
However, the De La Salle Order, which faces 17 new accusations, has refused to open its own inquiry.
The newspaper’s findings were also given to the head of the Spanish Church, Juan José Omella, who is archbishop of Barcelona. He gave the document to an ecclesiastical court, in theory triggering an investigation.
Vulnerable people
In a statement the Spanish Episcopal Conference, which represents the country’s bishops, broadly welcomed bringing to light such cases, saying that this might “help end the scourge of sexual abuse committed against children or vulnerable people in the Church or in society.” However, it went on to warn of a lack of “rigour” in the report, claiming that this “makes it difficult to come to conclusions that could serve a possible investigation.”
The findings of the report are based on hundreds of testimonies gathered over a period of three years. El País said that the names of alleged abusers had been detailed in all but 35 cases.
On Tuesday, a spokesperson for the Episcopal Conference insisted that the Spanish Church would not proceed with an inquiry until it received approval from the Vatican.
Jéssica Albiach, of the Catalan wing of the leftist Podemos party, said she expected the revelations to lead to a deep investigation.
“In Spain we have had years of delay, which is the fault of an Episcopal Conference that is complicit with child abuse, but soon justice will be done,” she wrote on Twitter.

‘The Pope Ignored Them’: Alleged Abuse of Deaf Children on Two Continents Points to Vatican Failings
When investigators swept in and raided the religious Antonio Provolo Institute for the Deaf, they uncovered one of the worst cases yet among the global abuse scandals plaguing the Catholic Church: a place of silent torment where prosecutors say pedophiles preyed on the most isolated and submissive children.
The scope of the alleged abuse was vast. Charges are pending against 13 suspects; a 14th person pleaded guilty to sexual abuse, including rape, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The case of the accused ringleader — an octogenarian Italian priest named Nicola Corradi — is set to go before a judge next month.
Corradi was spiritual director of the school and had a decades-long career spanning two continents. And so his arrest in late 2016 raised an immediate question: Did the Catholic Church have any sense that he could be a danger to children?
The answer, according to a Washington Post investigation that included a review of court and church documents, private letters, and dozens of interviews in Argentina and Italy, is that church officials up to and including Pope Francis were warned repeatedly and directly about a group of alleged predators that included Corradi.
Yet they took no apparent action against him.
“I want Pope Francis to come here, I want him to explain how this happened, how they knew this and did nothing,” a 24-year-old alumna of the Provolo Institute said, using sign language as her hands shook in rage. She and her 22-year-old brother, who requested anonymity to share their experiences as minors, are among at least 14 former students who say they were victims of abuse at the now-shuttered boarding school in the shadow of the Andes.
Vulnerable to the extreme, the deaf students tended to come from poor families that fervently believed in the sanctity of the church. Prosecutors say the children were fondled, raped, sometimes tied up and, in one instance, forced to wear a diaper to hide the bleeding. All the while, their limited ability to communicate complicated their ability to tell others what was happening to them. Students at the school were smacked if they used sign language. One of the few hand gestures used by the priests, victims say, was an index figure to lips — a demand for silence.
“They were the perfect victims,” said Gustavo Stroppiana, the chief prosecutor in the case.
Pope Francis on Eve of Sex Abuse Summit: Those Who Spend Lives Accusing Church Are ‘Relatives of the Devil’

The statement comes as the world’s media is focused on the Vatican as it tackles accusations of clergy sexual abuse, silence and coverup.
In a Feb. 20 address to pilgrims from the southern Italian diocese of Benevento — the birthplace of St. Padre Pio — the Pope warned against what he called the “fashionable” trend of destroying the Church with one’s tongue.
“One cannot live one’s whole life accusing, accusing, accusing the Church,” he said. “Whose office is it to accuse? Who is the one the Bible calls the Great Accuser? The devil! And those who spend their lives accusing, accusing, accusing, are — I will not say children, because the devil doesn’t have any — but friends, cousins, relatives of the devil.”
The assertion that the devil has no children is surprising given the clear statement of Jesus to the contrary in John 8:44, when the Lord said to those who denied their slavery to sin: “You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
The Pope’s latest “Great Accuser” comments come one day before the opening of a widely anticipated Vatican summit on the “Protection of Minors in the Church.” The meeting, which will gather presidents of bishops’ conferences around the world together with the Pope, was called due to growing public anger, especially in the United States, over the McCarrick case, and a host of other abuse scandals that have come to light in the US, Europe, Latin America and Australia.
His comments also come the day after Cardinal Raymond Burke and Cardinal Walter Brandmüller wrote an open letter to the presidents of bishops’ conferences attending this week’s Vatican summit on clerical sex abuse, calling on them to “raise their voices” on the moral corruption in the Church, and after a coalition of 100 Catholic laity mobilized in Rome’s historic center to silently “oppose the Vatican’s policy of silence about homosexuality” in the abuse crisis.
The original text Pope Francis was to deliver to the pilgrims of Benevento was limited to remarks about Padre Pio. His “relatives of the devil” comments were therefore off the cuff.
Absent an act of God or heroic courage on the part of bishop participants, many observers believe the meeting will be a “failure,” a “masterpiece of hypocrisy,” or a smokescreen that perpetuates sin and coverup within the Church.
The Pope’s words today — if understood to mean attempts to harm the Church through lies and false accusations — concur with scripture, tradition and the writings of the saints, all of which speak not only of the need to bridle one’s tongue, but also of the devil’s persecution and hellish pursuit to destroy the Catholic Church.
However, in light of past statements and present scandals, it is unclear to whom the Pope is referring when he speaks of the “friends, cousins and relatives of the devil.”
As LifeSite reported in December, the Pope’s new editorial director of Vatican communications, Andrea Tornielli, has openly named Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò as the “Great Accuser.”
In Tornielli’s view, Archbishop Viganò earned the title for alleging in his 11-page explosive testimony that, in 2013, as nuncio to the United States, he personally told Pope Francis that McCarrick had corrupted “generations of seminarians and priests.”
In a Nov. 6 television interview to promote his book on the Viganò testimony, Tornielli — who one month later was appointed the editorial director of the Holy See’s Dicastery for Communications — also named Cardinal Joseph Zen of Hong Kong as “another great accuser” of Pope Francis.
In his Feb. 20 address to pilgrims from Benevento, the Pope extolled St. Padre Pio — a priest, mystic and stigmatist who could read hearts — for “his firm faith in God, firm hope in heavenly realities, generous dedication to people, and fidelity to the Church, which he has always loved with all its problems and adversities.”
Padre Pio “loved the Church” with her many “problems, adversities and sinners,” Pope Francis said. “Because the Church is holy, she is the Bride of Christ; but we, the children of the Church, are all sinners — and some of us big ones! — but he loved the Church as she was, he didn’t destroy it with his tongue, as it’s fashionable to do nowadays.”
One who “loves the Church” knows how to forgive, because “he knows he is a sinner” in need of God’s forgiveness, he told pilgrims from Benevento, who were in Rome to repay the Pope’s visit to the Sanctuary of Padre Pio last March. One who loves “knows how to fix things,” he added, “because the Lord wants to fix things well, but always with forgiveness
“You must point out defects in order to correct, but when you point out the defects, when you denounce the defects, you love the Church,” he added. “Without love, that is of the devil.”
“St. Padre Pio had both,” the Pope observed. “He loved the Church with all its problems and with the sins of his children.”
“Don’t forget this,” he said.
In his address, the Pope also encouraged the pilgrims to “accept more and more the love of God” and his “divine charity” and to “give this life-changing love, especially to people who weaker and in need,” after the example of Padre Pio and St. Francis.
“Sometimes one has to speak,” he told them, “but begin with witness, live as Christians, witnessing that love is more beautiful of hatred, that friendship is more beautiful than enmity, and that brotherhood among all of us is more beautiful than war.”

Over the weekend, New Zealand’s TV 1 News aired a disturbing report about Catholic priests allegedly abusing children on the island nation of Fiji. One of the victims said on camera that when he attended a Catholic school, priests would lure boys up to their bedrooms using candy and oranges (rare treats), then sexually assault them.
But where did these priests come from? That’s the kicker: Many of them were kicked out of the Catholic Church in New Zealand and Australia because they were accused of sexual abuse. Instead of moving them to another local parish, as we’ve seen in the U.S., some of them went to Fiji, where they found new victims in a culture that reveres men of God.

Bishop Gerald Glenn, the pastor of New Deliverance Evangelistic Church in Virginia has died, the church announced on Sunday. Glenn had tested positive for coronavirus, according to a video posted by his daughter Mar-Gerie Crawley.
In a sermon on March 22, a day before Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam issued his executive order banning all public and private gatherings of 10 people or more, Glenn told his congregation, “I firmly believe that God is larger than this dreaded virus,” and announced he was not afraid to die.
On April 4, Glenn’s daughter posted a video, announcing that both he and his wife, Marcietia Glenn, had tested positive for coronavirus.
The church’s post announcing Gerald Glenn’s death, asked that others would allow the “First Family to grieve in their own way.”
“While they are mourning the heartbreaking earthly absence of their family patriarch & spiritual father, they also have family members who are struggling to survive this dreaded pandemic,” the church’s Facebook post read.

An evangelical pastor died of COVID-19 just weeks after proudly showing off how packed his Virginia church was — and vowing to keep preaching “unless I’m in jail or the hospital.”
In his last known in-person service on March 22, Bishop Gerald O. Glenn got his congregation at Richmond’s New Deliverance Evangelistic Church to stand to prove how many were there despite warnings against gatherings of more than 10 people
I firmly believe that God is larger than this dreaded virus. You can quote me on that,” he said, repeating it a second time to claps, saying that “people are healed” in his church.
Happily announcing he was being “controversial” by being “in violation” of safety protocols — with “way more than 10 people” at the church — he vowed to keep his church open “unless I’m in jail or the hospital.”
“I am essential,” he said of remaining open, adding, “I’m a preacher — I talk to God!”
An Arkansas pastor who was recently struck with the deadly coronavirus along with his wife, Dena, and more than 30 others connected to his church is now warning others not to underestimate how dangerous the virus is and treat it with “wisdom and restraint.”
“There was very little in my training for the ministry that covered the full measure of what our church family has dealt with in the past few weeks,” pastor Mark Palenske of Greers Ferry First Assembly in Cleburne County said in a statement on Facebook Sunday.
“The intensity of this virus has been underestimated by so many, and I continue to ask that each of you take it very seriously. An act of wisdom and restraint on your part can be the blessing that preserves the health of someone else.”
The church didn’t immediately respond to calls from The Christian Post for comment, but Donald Shipp, a deacon of the church, told The Arkansas Democrat Gazette on Monday that at least 34 people connected with the church have tested positive for the virus and several others are still awaiting results. All of them attended a children’s event held at the church from March 5-8.
Of those who tested positive for the virus, 31 are on staff at the church or are members, Shipp said. The others are two evangelists who led the children’s event and a child who was visiting.
Palenske warned on his Facebook page that the virus is “highly contagious” and his wife got so sick she had to be hospitalized along with several other members of their church.

She hates to read accusations against her god that is not true? Really? She really has not read her Old Testament god huh? Of course? Like all good brain-washed and brain-dead Christians like Rebecca? She fits the typical qualifications for Stockholm Syndrome for God Believers. Let me explain.
Stockholm Syndrome
Stockholm syndrome is commonly linked to high profile kidnappings and hostage situations. Aside from famous crime cases, regular people may also develop this psychological condition in response to various types of trauma.
Stockholm syndrome is a psychological response. It occurs when hostages or abuse victims bond with their captors or abusers. This psychological connection develops over the course of the days, weeks, months, or even years of captivity or abuse.
With this syndrome, hostages or abuse victims may come to sympathize with their captives. This is the opposite of the fear, terror, and disdain that might be expected from the victims in these situations.
Over the course of time, some victims do come to develop positive feelings toward their captors. They may even begin to feel as if they share common goals and causes. The victim may begin to develop negative feelings toward the police or authorities. They may resent anyone who may be trying to help them escape from the dangerous situation they’re in.
Christian Stockholm Syndrome
Now here is how we can prove that Christians? Have Stockholm Syndrome for their god. We could actually do an experiment to prove this and this is how I am going to do this posting so to prove my theory that Christians have Stockholm Syndrome for their god.
We take a group of people and without telling them where the stories are from? We give them the stories of the bible taken directly from the OT. Most people, including Christians? Pretty much have no clue as to what is really in the OT anyway. Sure they know about Moses, and about Noah and Adam and Eve but how many actually have read ALL the stories of the OT? Not many really. How many really know how the Tribe of Benjamin got their wives for example? Bet not many.
So, we will have stories of the god of the bible? Ordering his followers to rip the fetuses out of the wombs of pregnant Tipurah and Summerian women.
We have the stories of where the god of the bible? Ordered his followers to smash the bodies of infants and children against rocks.
We have the stories of where the god of the bible? Forced parents to cannibalize their children.
We have the story of where in response to the Prophet Elisha’s cries because some kids were picking on him making a joke about his bald head? The god of the bible sent two she bears and had all 42 kids killed by the bears.
Or the story of where the god of the bible ordered the Tribe of Benjamin to go invade Jabesh-Gilead, slaughter all living things except the virgins, rape them, force them into marrying the men of Benjamin and when they did not get enough virgins to do so? They did the same to the virgin dancing girls of Shiloh.
We have the levitical laws where a raped virgin is married off to her rapist for life.
Where a raped woman who does not scream loud enough to be heard and is found out is stoned to death for adultery.
Where a mouthy child is given a death penalty punishment.
If you were to sit a group of people down and tell them all of this? Without telling them these stories came from the bible or they had no knowledge that these stories came from the OT? More than likely when they were asked if this was a good being? A kind and loving being? A being worthy of worship and love? They would more than likely SAY NO. They would actually call this being? A demonic child abuser, murderer, butcher and pure evil.
No moral human being I know of, even good Christians who never knew these stories came from their bible? Would ever proclaim any human who did these things a kind, loving, just, moral human being now would they? Nor would they ever justify the actions of any being who did these actions or ordered these actions.
So let’s take this in another direction that proves? Christians have Stockholm Syndrome when it comes time to their god.
A Christian sure would never say that what Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin, Mao and all the other brutal dictators have done in our history were holy people, they would not say they were loving or just. They certainly would not call them merciful either would Christians? No they would not. (Well those lovely Christian groups the Nazis, the Proud Boys, the Aryian Nation, etc would).
Yet? If Christians? Were to read these stories of their god and all he did and ordered in the OT to be done to whole groups of people? Or children? Or infants? Or fetuses? Or women? They would actually call someone like this? A Hitler, a Pol Pot, a Stalin, A Mao. But when it comes to their god doing all this? They literally put a blinder on when it comes to the purely evil actions their god did in the OT and proclaim him holy, loving, just, merciful. They excuse the very same things he ordered to be done, or even did in the bible while they condemn humans who do these same things. They even JUSTIFY what their god does in the bible.
And this? Is what really shows how Christians are trapped in their Stockholm Syndrome with their god. They actually state? They cannot judge their god for doing all these things. Funny how they got no problem being judged by him, but they feel? They cannot even judge their own judge to see if he is even worthy? Of judging them.
Cause if you apply the same morals that Christians speak of in what being a True Christian is? Love, non-judgment, forgiving your enemies and turning the other cheek, and even praying for your enemy? To hate no one? To do no murder? To not harm a single hair on the head of a a child or by your actions drive that child from loving god? Or against rape, pedophilia, etc? Or harming fetuses in their stance against abortion when their own god not only ordered abortions but apparently when he did his flood, committed abortions himself when he drowned pregnant women, killing their fetuses? Then their god? FAILS on all counts of what Christians describe as having good morals and being a good Christian even.
BUT? They again? Either ignore their gods actions, they justify their gods actions or they say? YOU cannot judge our gods actions. But of course? Their god can judge us and our actions though lmfao.
So Christians? Fit the exact definition of someone having Stockholm Syndrome when it comes time to their god. Again, as the very definition of Stockholm Syndrome shows with my editing it a little?

Any other human or god doing these same things? They would declare pure evil.
If Christians were actually logical and honest with themselves? They would see this with their own eyes.
To start? This is NOT directed to all those True Christians out there who actualy practice and live their Lord and Saviors commandments. Especially? The second part of his greatest commandment and the bibles commands against hate, non-judgment, forgiving your enemies, treating all others as you would want them to treat you, and sowing good things.
I know there are a whole lot more of you True Christians out there than there are the ones who have hijacked your Christianity and preach and do everything opposite of what your Jesus ever commanded you to do. Yes, whether you believe it or not? We atheists? Have no problem with True Christians. We like you actually. You are really good and decent people. You do in fact? A lot to make the world a better place and do a whole lot helping others.

10 – You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.
9 – You feel insulted and “dehumanized” when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.
8 – You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.
7 – Your face turns purple when you hear of the “atrocities” attributed to Allah, but you don’t even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in “Exodus” and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in “Joshua” including women, children, and trees!
6 – You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.
5 – You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.
4 – You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs — though excluding those in all rival sects – will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most “tolerant” and “loving.”
3 – While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in “tongues” may be all the evidence you need to “prove” Christianity.
2 – You define 0.01% as a “high success rate” when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.
1 – You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history – but still call yourself a Christian.
